Snip Snap, Farewell?
You may have noticed that this site was down for a few days. You may also have been wondering why. If this is the case, please, by all means, continue reading.
It turns outSnipSnap is not particularly stable on windows. This is the third time that the database was corrupted.Snarfed, which exits within a linux machine, seems to be immune from this effect.
In any case, I'm realizing I have quite a bit of content on this site and I have put a lot of time into it. If the content were to be lost in some irreparable, randomly-occurring, unexplainable data corruption event, I would be sad. To avoid these feelings of loss, I am thinking about switching to a more static system of creating static html and using some relatively simple script to tack on the header/footer/menu.
It's been my experience that keeping random files intact is relatively easy. The tradeoff for this security is the loss of cgi :-/ This means you won't be able to make comments...which is something I enjoy reading...I will definitely be looking into concocting something to give me what I need...but we'll see.
