To iPod or not to iPod

To iPod or not to iPod

Between discovering that iPods handle audiobooks very well and reading the poetic musings of Omar's iPod, I have been thinking about getting my own iPod. Carrying around an inifinitude of music sounds pretty convenient when attempting to enhance one's moods. It is true that recently I have itched to hear some tunes that I didn't have on my person. Finally, I started playing around with iTunes and became enamored with its ability to quickly organize a otherwise disheveled music collection.

But now a recent firmware upgrade that allows my trusty old Rio Cali to form a symbiotic relationship with an SD card as big as 1Gb, had me thinking twice utterly confused.

My trusty Rio Cali, who will now be referred to as ... Trusty :-P (not actual photo...for privacy reasons)

But I like Trusty. Why? It's because I never have to worry about him; let me count the reasons.

  • He's flash-based, which means if I go running, there's no chances of him skipping himself into oblivion.
  • He's well protected in his included belt clip case, he does not fear a pop-quiz from gravity.
  • The metal clip on the back of his snug case is attracted to a magnet that sits in my car - this is my mp3 player mount....C'est tres elegant
  • Finally he's powered by the venerable and ubiquitous AAA battery. I'm never without one of these inexpensive batteries that will never go out of style.
  • Heck, he even uses a standard mini-USB cable for data transfer...more standarization and ubiquity!

Verdict: Not to iPod; 1.128Gb of music/audio books is good enough for me.
