Day Dreaming vs. Focus

Day Dreaming vs. Focus

This week I had the opportunity to listen to a series of radio programs by the BBC that talked about different glitches that can befall your all too human brain. The last one talked about day dreaming and its "benefits".

First they talked about it's role as an emotional outlet for your unachievable hopes and dreams, which made sense. Then they went on to interview trainers and psychologists who were talking about how to help people like athletes and astronauts focus on their jobs. These trainers talkeda bout practicing to focus by imagining doing the task in your mind.

To me, it seems that training to focus and day dreaming have nothing to do with one another. Trained focussing sounds a lot like the teachings of Flow. That books says that if you are engrossed in what you are doing, and avoid all distractions, you will perform better and be happier. The idea of imaging your tasks as practice reminds me of either image-streaming, or of the Cool Runnings team practicing their turns in a bath tub :-P

So what I am saying is that training yourself to focus and getting lost in your work has nothing to do with idle fantasizing.

But I guess the real questions is, do you want to kiss my lucky egg?
