Cats and Dogs
Cats and Dogs
Recently, I observed something I thought was very, very odd. I walked by an alley where two cats were having, well, a cat-fight. Lined up to watch were a pack of hungry, slobbering dogs.
You could tell that each and every dog wanted to devour at least one of these cats, but the instant the any of the dogs moved closer to the action, the cats thought better about fighting in an alley full of dogs. However, since these starved dogs were enjoying even the mere prospect of a meal, the group would fight back against any brave dogs trying to get a piece for themselves.
And so this developed this balance between the one and the many. The one wanted to eat, the many wanted to make sure no short-sighted one blew it for the rest of them.
On some level it was a democracy, on another it was mob mentality, on yet another level it was a display of greed fighting greed. So after thinking about it, it was indeed very odd, that these cats and dogs were in that alley. But their behavior is somewhat common; I wish I knew if that was good or bad.
