Public Digital Library

I serendipitously (read: at breakfast) came across an article in the paper regarding how iPods are making audio books more accessible (surprise, surprise). What was news to me, is that my very own Phoenix Public Library offers audio books for download! I will rephrase this as: you log on to their site and download an audio book.

The Phoenix Public Libarary offers digital downloads of eBooks and Audio Books

The books are downloaded in a protected Windows Media Audio format (boo!) that is playable for 21 days. At this point, this 'copy' of the book is automatically checked back into the library. Welcome to the future, baby!

Unfortunately, the company providing the books isn't on good terms with most publishers so the selection isn't what it could be. But please make no mistake, on the whole, it's a step in my kind of direction!

I bet your library is doing something similar, so, by all means, go get your "read" on!
