Prolific Google Whackage
Yesterday, a few of us enjoyed a nice evening of fantastic live storytelling as the audience of one, David Gormon.
Through a combination of peer pressure, admitted loss of judgement, and happenstance, the man was apparently drawn into a quest to meet, face-to-face, a chain of webmasters whose sites featured a googlewhack. His stage presence as well as his powerpoint presentations really brought out the sheer exasperation with which he pursued his adventure; which incidently and vaguley ressembled a fully un-optimzed version of the travelling salesman problem. I imagine his book and audio book would leave a little too much of his trials to the imagination; i.e. in person was really cool and compelling.
It wasn't until a little bit into the presentation that I knew this man was for real. He showed a slide featuring about 50 people named Dave Gorman that he had assembled due to a previous bit of peer pressure. As somebody with a passing interested in other people sharing my name, I started to really relate to the guy.
In any case, Dave presented his adventure really well and it was a hilarious night that we spent belly-laughing. After the show, he came out to meet the audience and it turns out he's never performed in Mountain View and that he is a fan of Douglas Adams :-) Also, he's amiable enough to allow me to take a picture with him ... I continue to be famous by assocation!
