A Night of Firsts

A Night of Firsts

Last Saturday was quite a night of firsts.

The first first, was being taken to my first hockey game! Which mean it was the first time I had been in Glendale Arena. Unfortunately, it was also the first time I have ever been late for a sporting event. And it was particularly unfortunate because it was Brett Hull's first retirement ceremony; and that was the first item on the program. It became the first time that my friend had wanted to cause me physical harm.

The firsting didn't stop there, no sir. Moments after we walked in, the Phoenix Coyotes presented, for the first time, their brand new mascot, Howler!!

Howler in his first fan picture ... notice his hand gesture

And guess who became the first fan he hugged after his debut? That would be me. It was also the first time I had seen a hockey goal in real-time instead of a replay; not to mention my first viewing of the legendary Wayne Gretzky.

Later that evening, we stopped at a Filiberto's for some grub. As I walked in, and much to my delight, I noticed an original (first?) Street Fighter II Turbo arcade machine. Before ordering food (i.e. the first thing I did), I challenged a bunch of high school kids to play me. Alas, it seems these children are not well-versed in the art of first generation 2-D fighting games.

Finally, the end of the night was the very first time that I heard Method Man being remixed into a bhangra song at a garba night :-P Simply amazing.
