The N.R.I. Unleashed

The N.R.I. Unleashed

My parents love to watch a musical gameshow that comes on one of the Indian networks called 'Antaakshari'. The game is played by teams of contestants who showcase their abilities to recognize songs from instrumentals and to play words games with the song lyrics, as well as, their knowledge of Bollywood in general.

This show is currently touring the US so that us Non-Resident Indians (N.R.I.'s) can have a chance to play. Much to my surprise, they happened to stop at the auditorium of my old high school! I was really impressed with the quality of the contestants and the production values of the show. The hosts are celebrities and the crowd loved it when their help was solicited.

While I probably didn't appreciate it to its fullest, I do know this: the musicians of the show are the unsung hereos (pardon the pun). They know how to play every song, ever, and they can start playing after somebody sings a bar or two of the song. It's really qutie amazing if you think about it. In any case, I had a great time and I bet I wasn't the only one :-)
