Audible on Linux
Audible on Linux
Most recently, I've started to use Linux at home and I'm in the process of moving off of Windows. One speedbump was downloading audio books from Audible ...
Turns out that you can use Wine to install the desktop client. The client (known as 'Manager') doesn't work right; however, there is a binary called "AudibleDownloadHelper.exe" that seems to do its job just fine! This means that when you download the little .pl file from the audible website after purchasing your book, you can execute the following command and have it download the .aa file to your computer!
wine ./AudibleDownloadManager.exe ~/Desktop/aw_dhelper.pl
Of course, it's up to you to get it onto your device of choice. I end up copying the file to an SD card which then goes into my Treo.
Such joyous news must be spread far and wide ... though, admittedly, the number of audible.com users who use Linux may not be one of the larger ones :-)
