Assassination Vacation

A very weird book. This lady travels around the country visiting historic sites in an attempt to better understand assassinated presidents and their assassins. However, she is also interested in pointing out the, often funny, ironies of history and really gives a good flavor for what was going on at the time. I read the book because it was suppose to guest star people like Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart ... it was more like cameo's. That being said about the nuts and bolts of the book, the meaning is really interesting. She points out how in as short of a history the US has, it's already repeating itself. She also points out how much we've changed since the Civil War. The weird thing is that you never learn any of this stuff in school. I think history classes should be taught in reverse chronological order, some of the most important and relevant (to today) events and results happened just beyond the memories of any living generation. In other words, look up the McKinley/Roosevelt administrations when you get a chance, specifically our dealings with the liberation of Cuba.
