Big Game 2005

Pictures for the illiterate

The 108th Big Game weekend was about one simple thing: Glory. Well, actually, it was more about the drawgroup getting together to have some good times :-) Here's how it went!

I lashed some reigns on the sun and rode it almost all the way into the Pacific. At the last minute, I jumped off and took a picture as I glided down to SJC. From there it was straight to a seemingly spontaneously coordinated Mexican dinner. I later found out that I was partaking in a weekly event and I liked it! Apres le dinner, it was time to return to the stage of history, I mean playing video games :-) We wrapped up the night with some time at the Nut House, aka the NuHo.

Morning time brought the breakfast born to a particularly Prolific Oven. With the arrival of our local weeny and a local turncoat-spy-robot, it was time to head off to Big Tailgate. That's right, on the day of Big Game, everything is Big. We may have used our mad engineering skills luck to get ourselves a pretty sweet parking spot; 'twas in the Eucalyptus grove between the Roble fields and the soccer fields ... may the powers that be forgive us for our transgressions ... but it was awesome! There we met up with many people include, but not limited to, a 90's rap/hip-hop dancer chick, Trackstar, and a guy that really has to kill you if he tells you what he does. We had a little bit of a scare when we were cited for smiling without a permit, but we paid our dues. When we were good and ready, we headed out to the stadium; my first such visit in four years.

The game itself was relatively slow. However, its intrigue and hilarity was enhanced by not only the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band, but also the ridiculous world of micro-bets. Our favorite was the, "Over/under on how many times the announcer says 'seven'." After the local newsman made a glitzy entrance midway through the game, we called the figurative black lion (he forms the head) to tell him that we wished he could have been there. It should be noted that we learned, from the band, that Verizon does not consider Stanford's campus to be part of America. Cal picked up some high school band on the way to the game so it really didn't have anything to say. This year's Big Game became the fourth consecutive Big Tragedy and alums felt bad for this year's graduating seniors. We'll get your next time, weenies shakes fist !!

It was time for Big Dinner and everybody ordered Big Chimichangs, except for a few holdouts. Naturally we headed back for more video games. This time, some pong, foosball, general musical jammage ensue in additions to Rush, Soul Calibur and Bomberman. We eventually said our Big Goodbyes and called it a night.

Sunday morning started with a viewing of The Office and watching some Google Maps quality control in action. Following this, we made a royal visit to Hobee's and consumed sustenance. Then we made time for appreciating the spectrum of fall colors presented by our silent woody friends. After duping the psychology departments security measures (in 15 seconds) and taking some fun pictures, we said goodbye to campus sniff.

Shortly there after I found myself in the clothes of an ultimate-dance-move-expert and strolling through the civil parts of Palo Alto on the way to a tennis court. A men's doubles game ensued, oh, how I had missed tennis. We then decided to enjoy some Thai food followed by spicy Mayan hot chocolate. Finally the lone rider and I rode his 600 horses back to SJC.

Ahhh, beautiful weather, good times, and great friends. grins

Please add to the jokes:

  • Matt will be stomping in A'r Force Ones right behind John, that way they'll have Two P'r
  • These are the rules ... and regulaaations.
