Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

AmazonWow. As far as I can tell, this is the only story of foreign policy that makes coherent sense. He explains that as an employee of a private company, he forecasted vast growth in undeveloped nations in order to convince them to take out massive un-repayable loans and spend the money on foreign companies to build the infrastructure presribed by the forecast. Once the money is lent, repayment is seen as impossible, and the foreign companies can demand alternative forms of repayment. Furthermore, if a country doesn't need the loans, they simply pump their own monies into foreign construction companies. He says the system is based on the fallacy that all economic growth is good and that we should understand sustinability is more important. It's changed my views on a lot of topics and situations that had nothing to do with anything mentioned in the book. It was also a perfect sequel to Lies my teacher told me.
