Digital+Video+Compression
I must show you
http://doom9.org/ They have comprehensive guides on ripping, converting, etc. for most topics.
One particularly high highlight is theirvideo codec comparison.
PPC Movies
Some instruction that is a little less available is making movies work for your PDA. But first you gotta make sure you PDA can handle playing DivX movies. For that, you're gonna have to download: PocketMVP, The pocket music and video player.
Next you need to figure out where you're movie is coming from, DVD, an big DivX file, or some other format. I'm gonna be lazy and pretend to already have your movie in DivX format.
To rip it from a DVD or convert your movie to DivX from some other format, please check out
http://doom9.org/ or the rest of the internet for such instruction.
By this time of day, you have worked with VirtualDub, and converted your movie to DivX. I'm proud of you if you have gotten this far. The rest isn't that hard.
Open your movie in VirtualDub, and look at the Filters Section...we need to resize and rotate. We'll also need to cut the framerate in half and compress the audio.
Yes there are quality-elitists out there, who want to rip the movie straight from dvd, keeping the 25fps etc etc, but they also seem to have bigger compact flash cards. The point of this guide is to get your movie down to a 256Mb chip.
Here are some stats on movies I've done:
Bad Boys II, 141min = 231Mb
- 200 Kb/s video
- 24 Kb/audio
- 15 fps
- 2 pass DivX 5.03 compression
...to be continued...
You could just pay $25 for a package that will do it for you, behold:DVD To Pocket PC
