Dreams of a Final Theory

By: Steven Weinberg - Available at Amazon

A pretty in-depth look at the history and state of search for the final theory of nature. Not exactly sure who the audience for this book would be ... it seems too simple for physics grad students and a bit over the head of geeks like me. To his credit this is the first time I've been able to get through some of the 'deeper' stuff. Other things I liked about the book include, but are not limited to the following. String theory makes a tiny bit of sense, woot! He presentation of the depth of scientific significance of a piece of chalk is pretty inspiring. His description of the anthrpologic difference between western and eastern scientific communities is probably something I'll never find anywhere else. Lastly, his ideas on the anthropic principles of scientific discoveries is also a lot to chew on. I'm missing tons of stuff from this description mainly because it's hard to recall everything covered in this book, there's just a lot :-) Not the easiest of 'reads' but I'm glad I got throught it.
