Houston 2008
For the impatient: Pictures
About a week after hurrican Ike, we took a trip to Houston for Suma and Timmin's wedding -- our first Indian Catholic wedding! The wedding itself was quite the experience. Despite the original church hadn't had its powered restored, the wedding went off without any other hitches ... except that Suma and Timmins got hitched :-P It was surreal seeing Indian folk in Indian garb in church. The ceremony definitely blended Hindu elements into the Catholic tradition.
As for Ike, it was hard to ignore its havoc. Twisted metal, uprooted trees, and holes in everything were just a few obvious signs you'd see as you drove around. The radio was filled with DJs trying to help out their listeners with information on shelter and updates on power and water restoration. The residents around town were definitely doing their best to make life normal and keep their spirits up -- clubbing and happy hours were all getting it going and the curfew was pretty much lifted.
Now if only, the Freebirds had resumed normal business hours!!
