AmazonI found this author from his Ted Talk called "
Program or be Programmed", and boy am I glad that I did. The book talks about the corporatist mindset that has been adopted by the world during the past few centuries and its impact on daily life. He also explains how centralized money isn't the only option for currency and is detrimental to the development of community. I think I knew pieces of the story, but he puts it together nicely. It's a little long on the bad news and a little short on the remedies, but still, it's an awesome book. One remedy is to use 'local currency' by buying credits at a local business thus allowing the business to get the capital it needs without involving a bank. He also points out that building some organization to orchestrate an anti-corporate effort is still playing into the overall system. The goal is to dismantle the pervasiveness by choosing not to participate. This is the third book I've read as as result of watching Ted Talks, apparently it's not a bad place to pick up authors.
