Snow Crash

An amazingly fun, awesome, and mystifying tale of hackers, the Mafia, science, religion, and Aleutians, that is set in a near future where coporations and franchises have effectively taken over the role of governments. If you liked the ~~Da Vinci Code~~, this one is ten times better! The characters are much more colorful and Stephenson seems to have done a fair amount of research into archeology (or he mad it all up) to try explain some of the core myths of many religions. Around these concepts, he wove the story of "the last freelance hacker" and a wiley skater chick as they try to save the world from a texan media king bent on brainwashing the world. Pretty much, it's an awesome tale worthy of pring...I'd love to see movie or play its video game adaption :-)
