By: John J. Ratey - Available at Amazon

I thought the book would show us how to super-charge a brain using exercise. Instead, Ratey provides a massive amount of proof that exercise can help in the cure of variety of diseases such as depression and dementia. Valuable information, no doubt, just not what I was looking for. The only actionable advice he gives is that you should perform aerobic exercise 6 days a week for 45 minutes and that two of the should include very high intensity work. While the author admits that his advice is nothing new and that the fun of the book is knowing the mechanisms and hormones that make exercise healthy, I was expecting a slightly more surprise ending. I did learn that the blood brain barrier is a series of really small capillaries, not the membrane I once surmised it might be.
