The Black Swan

AmazonI found this book to be a pretty cool point of view. Granted, the author is fairly arrogant, but I'll hope he did this on purposes. His point is that the bell curve is only useful in very controlled experiments, not in real life. What are the odds that somebody will sell more books than J.K. Rowling? According to the bell curve, it will not happen until the universe is dead. But if we were betting people, we know it'll probably happen in our lifetime. A power distribution can predict this. His message is to expose yourself to the risk of winning it big, and minimize your risk of being hit by the next big calamity by understanding how risk works in real world.
