The Little Book that Beats the Market

By: Joel Greenblatt - Available at Amazon

This book is by far the most tactical of the finance books I've read. It recommends ranking stocks by their earnings yield and ROC and holding for a year selling and repeating the screen. His calculations show a ~30% return on such a strategy and he offers a website to run the screen for you. The tone of the book is pretty silly, but it's basically talking about a simple way to value businesses and then relying on average, long time horizons and diversification to take care of the rest. I like the message and I think this combined with some basic analysis of competitive advantage should help find some long-term winners ... i hope :-)
