The Kite Runner

AmazonMaybe because it was written by a dude, maybe because the author read it himself and pronounced all the Farsi words correctly, maybe because it was just a friggin amazingly well-told story about the effects of world-stage events on a flawed hero (replete with his emotions), but it was a great, great read. Not a super happy story that I normally like, but one with a whole range of ups and downs and characters that felt familiar (I don't know why, probably because of the whole immigrant angle). I also never knew how similar Farsi and Hindi were. Man, he mixed up politics, racism, immigration, revolution, war, love, brotherhood, adultery, socio-economic class, marriage, and a couple of slingshots into a crazy blender and just poured it all out in a very personal way. Can all writers do this?
