Perceived Needs of Public School Quality and Medical Care in Low Income Familes

Description

Head Start is a comprehensive child development program, which serves children from birth to age five. Its mission is to promote self-sufficiency and wellbeing by promoting social competence. It consists of child focussed programs with the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families. In addition, Head Start provides preventative care services and health screenings for children.

The program conducted a community assessment in Maricopa County to measure the needs of the community in a variety of areas. This study focuses on the following factors: race/ethnicity, income levels, employment status, household structure, and local Head Start regions. We believe these factors drive the perception of the existence of adequate services that ensure the quality of public schools and medical care in the community.
